November Meeting Minutes

Date: November 15, 2015 at Graceway fellowship Hall in Kansas City, Mo.

Attendance: 42

Open: In the abscense of President, Cathy Misko, 1st Vice President, Laura Fish opened the meeting at ~2:40 with thanks extended to all present for their generous donations to REAP. Asked if anyone was here for their first time or any new members present. Welcome. Requested all Board of Directors/Officers to raise their hands for identification to new attendees. As the MBA Minutes for October had not been posted online yet, filing/corrections will be done at next meeting.

Reports: Librarian, Tom O’Neill reported a new book addition titled “Grow A Living Wall”, by Shawna Coronado. Suggested it was a great winter project.

As Membership Officer, Tanya Fisher was not present, any renewals or new membership applications could be given to Cindy Connell at the back table.

New Business:

Laura F. stated the first item to take care of was the Membership voting approval for the 2016 Board of Directors Candidates as follows:

3rd VP/Publicity/Editor Janice Britz, Secretary Cindy Connell, Treasurer Wes Johnston, 2nd Board Member Dean Sanders, 3rd Board Member Steve DeCaigney, and Librarian Tom O’Neill will all continue in their current positions. Auditor and Mo Beekeepers Assn. Liaison are currently open positions.

Announcements: Laura F said in January 2016, the MBA General Meetings will be moved back to Bass Pro. Asked if anyone had an alternative meeting place suggestion to contact an Officer of the Club.

Laura F announced we are now taking applications from students for the Youth Scholarship Program. Please visit our website for updated information or call Cathy M. Printed out full application are at the back table. Deadline is January 1, 2016.

Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 7pm: Monthly Value Added meeting at Bass Pro. How to sell Honey and Honey Products to the Public by Debi and Steve DeCaigney.

Saturday, March 12, 2016: 21st Annual Beginning Beekeeping Workshop at Lakewood Oaks Golf Club at Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Sunday, December 13, 2015: MBA General Meeting will be our Christmastime Celebration Potluck Dinner at Graceway Fellowship Hall at 2:30 pm.

Laura F asked a guest attendee, Angela Waltz, to make her announcement offering her beekeeping equipment to anyone who could use it/or want it as she was discontinuing working with bees. Several members were happy to help her out.

With no more announcements, Laura F introduced Mervin Wallace from Mo Wildflower Nursery in Jefferson City, as our first speaker for the night. He explained what native means and why we would want to plant them. He also passed out 2015 Native Plants catalog which displays beautiful pictures and descriptions of each plant. Questions were answered during and after his program. Thank you.

The next program was given by Tom O’Neill on Winter Management of our Bee Hives. His years of experience are very helpful for beekeepers of all levels of learning. Good interactive discussion was had with the audience. He answered questions both during and after his program. Thank you.

With no more questions, Laura F wrapped up the meeting with door prizes drawn. Thanks were extended to all how help set up and return the room to order.

NEXT MBA GENERAL MEETING WILL BE ON DECEMBER 13, 2015 AT 2:30pm AT GRACEWAY FELLOWSHIP HALL. IT IS OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION POTLUCK DINNER. MEAT AND DRINK ARE PROVIDED. MEMBERS ARE ASKED TO BRING A FINGER FOOD OR DESSERT. FEASTING, PRESENTING AWARDS, INSTALLING OFFICERS AND FELLOWSHIPPING ARE ON THE AGENDA.
